Angola is writing a new chapter in its modern agriculture. On November 26th, 2025, in an event that will bring together high-level national and international authorities, the first container of Angolan avocados with an electronic phytosanitary certificate will depart from the Port of Lobito heading to the Port of Rotterdam in Europe — a technological, institutional and strategic milestone for the country, now officially integrated into the international ePhyto system.
This is a double achievement: Angola is exporting fruit with electronic certification for the first time and becomes a regional reference in the digitalisation of phytosanitary processes.
This moment represents not just a technical breakthrough, but a powerful signal of Angola’s strategic direction.
It reinforces three central national priorities:
- Food Security;
- Strengthening the emerging Agribusiness sector;
- Operationalising the country’s key Development Corridors, with the Lobito Corridor at the centre of this transformation.
GLOBALG.A.P. & GRASP: A World-Class Export Standard
In this historic moment, a similarly significant feat for the future of Angolan agribusiness stands out: the Fazenda MMM — part of the Angola Highlands Avocado Cluster — has just obtained the international certifications GLOBALG.A.P. and GRASP, two seals validating good agricultural practices, social responsibility, food safety and sustainability.
Thanks to this milestone, the export to the Netherlands will take place already under both full international certifications, giving Angolan avocado credibility alongside the world’s leading producers.
The GLOBALG.A.P. certification represents a compulsory step for any producer aspiring to compete in international fresh-fruit markets. It guarantees that every stage — from field to packing — meets global standards for food safety, environmental protection, labour welfare and full traceability. For Angola, this achievement is not just an export requirement: it is a structural quality leap that opens doors to premium buyers, increases European importers’ confidence and places the country on the route of suppliers operating with transparency and responsibility. It is the technical passport that turns agricultural potential into real economic value.
This step positions the Angola Highlands Avocado Cluster as an African case-study of professionalization, innovation and compliance with international market demands.
With the operational launch of the Logistics Platform of Caála, Angola will be ready to scale the export of tropical fruits and other agricultural products along the Lobito Corridor — one of the priority projects of the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative — and now a symbol of new connectivity between Africa and Europe.
Cooperation, Technology and the Future
This is an ongoing project in coordination between Angola, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the European Union, reinforced by strategic support from the Ministry of Transport of Angola (MINTRANS), the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests of Angola (MINAGRIF), and the Regulatory Agency for Communications and Logistics of Angola (ARCCLA), which ensure the modernisation of phytosanitary procedures, digitalisation of processes and consolidation of agricultural exports. This technical and institutional cooperation ensures conformity with international standards and the building of a robust, efficient system prepared to support the growth of Angolan agribusiness in the coming years.
The implementation of ePhyto ensures faster, more transparent processes aligned with global standards — reducing risks, increasing trust and opening doors to new markets.
